Owl in Full Moon - Mokume and HIra Nui Stitching

Picture
I was inspired to create this piece after walking outside in the evening behind my home to watch the full moon come up. As I walked a little further, the owl was framed in front of the moon while sitting on a line. This piece is made using approximately 200 lines of mokume stitching to create the moon effect. The owl is outline in hira nui stiching. I created open space that represent wisps of clouds. Once all of the lines of stitching were completed, each line is pulled tight. I immersed the fabric seven times in the natural indigo dye vat to create the layers of color.
